ABOUT ME

‘‘Was I supposed to end up in uniform? It is what it is.

I now know… with the right door, I could have been anything!’’

MY STORY

I went on to become a Police Community Support Officer in 2012, then a Police Constable in 2021. I wasn’t there to enforce power—I was there to protect people like me. In 2023, I was awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation and nominated for the National Police Bravery Awards after confronting, disarming and arresting an armed suspect. But true bravery isn’t just about stepping into danger—it’s about stepping into purpose.

Eventually, I chose to leave policing. Not because I lost my mission—but because I found a new door... MY DOOR!

Today, I’m a youth advocate, anti-knife crime/youth violence, a inspirational speaker, and a voice for those still trying to find their own. I work with young people who feel stuck, overlooked, or counted out—because I’ve lived that life. I don’t just tell them to make better choices. I show them that better is possible.

My mission hasn’t changed.
🔑 I still open doors.
🔑 I still speak for the unheard.
🔑 And I still believe that where you start should never decide where you finish.

This isn’t just my story. It’s proof that YOU can be the reason doors open.

At 14 years old, I was arrested - another black kid headed down a path too many never walk back from and a story, some other people are all too happy with. Sitting in the back of the police van, I had a moment of clarity; a seminal moment. I knew I wasn’t a lost cause. This was a door, an opportunity to show myself what I could achieve and how easy it was for a door to be closed

I wanted more for myself… and that moment shaped everything.

I tried my hardest to stay out of trouble, but growing up in Edmonton around this time was as tough as it gets. Losing friends and family along the way…

Death…

Prison…

Growth…

Choice…

I stayed focused, resilient and stayed on my path…

At the time I was unknowing how important my experience growing up, would help me as an adult and as an officer.
